Merzouga is a quaint Moroccan town located in the heart of the Sahara Desert, close to the Algerian border. It serves as the gateway to Erg Chebbi, a vast sea of golden sand dunes stretching just north of the town.

To the west lies Dayet Srji, a seasonal salt lake that typically dries up in summer but, when filled, becomes a haven for migratory and desert birds. Here, visitors can spot species such as desert warblers, Egyptian nightjars, and even flamingos on rare occasions.
